The Gunpowder River is just 90 minutes from the London Tract Church and offers a tailwater environment in which water temperatures are moderate over the course of the year. Trout and insects like these conditions and their large numbers bear this out. In this presentation Mark Staley will discuss a recent electrofishing survey of the Gunpowder and discuss what it means for the flyfisherman.
Mark will present a talk on the Gunpowder Falls tailwater trout fishery. The Gunpowder Falls tailwater originates at Prettyboy Dam and flows 17 miles down to Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County, MD. MD DNR manages the Gunpowder for wild brown trout and stocked rainbow trout in 3 different segments.
Mark Staley is the Central Region Manager for MD DNR Freshwater Fisheries. The Central Region includes Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, and Montgomery counties. Mark has worked in the Central Region for the entirety of his 34 year career as a fisheries biologist with MD DNR managing coldwater, warmwater, and tidal largemouth bass recreational fisheries.
