The image of the fly fisherman exploring an untouched wilderness free of the impact of the rest of mankind is an icon of the sport but doesn’t describe the experience that most of us have during a typical day on the water. We share the waterways with others and we wish for our fisheries and our other outdoor resources to be managed to minimize negative impacts. We need rules and we need for them to be enforced. The enforcement of those rules falls to Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission Waterways Conservation Officers (WCO) and Deputy Officers (DWCO).

Ed Guthrie is a local DWCO. One of his responsibilities has been White Clay Creek in PA. He brings his passion for fishing and life long experience in the outdoors to this role.

In this presentation we will learn more about the work of a Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission Deputy Waterways Conservation Officer (DWCO). Ed will explain what a DWCO is or does, and he will also describe the process of becoming a DWCO. Finally, Ed will tell us about a few of his most memorable days patrolling Pennsylvania’s waterways.
