All About Fly Rods:

  1. Construction
  2. Determining Power and Action
  3. Fly Line Pairing

Fly rods and their marketing can be very confusing. What is a fast or medium action fly rod? Why is a fly rod’s action important?  What makes a 5 weight rod a 5 weight rod?  How do I make sense of available information when selecting a fly line?

This presentation will discuss a range of topics:

  1. Where and how fly rod blanks are manufactured
  2. How much does the blank add to the finished fly rod’s retail cost
  3. The work of Dr William Hanneman and his Common Cents method allowing us to accurately evaluate any fly rod at home
  4. Demystifying fly line grain weights

The presentation will include a demo evaluation of a fly rod using the Common Cents method. Club members will leave with a better understanding of our primary weapon – the fly rod.

Speaker:
